Jiecheng Shengye

Beijing Subway is an urban rail transit system serving Beijing, China. Its planning began in 1953, construction started in 1965, the earliest line was completed in 1969, and operation began in 1971. It is the first subway system in the Chinese region. As of December 28, 2014, Beijing Subway had 18 operating lines (including 17 subway lines and 1 airport rail), covering 11 municipal districts of Beijing. Counting transfer stations repeatedly, there were 318 operating stations; without double-counting transfer stations, there were 268 stations, with a total length of about 527 kilometers. In 2013, the annual passenger volume of Beijing Subway exceeded 3.2 billion, ranking first globally, and an average daily passenger flow of over 10 million has become the norm. In July 2013, the average daily passenger volume was 9.7503 million; in March 2014, the average daily passenger volume on working days exceeded 10 million, and on April 30, 2014, it reached a single-day peak of 11.5595 million. On December 28, 2014, Beijing Subway bid farewell to the 2-yuan flat fare era, implementing a new fare scheme with a base fare of 3 yuan, calculated by distance, and a 4-hour time limit for each trip. On November 24, 2015, the middle section of Line 14 of Beijing Subway opened in December, with a total of 9 stations, of which 5 allow transfers, and the transfer with Line 4 takes as fast as 20 seconds. Currently, Beijing Subway is undergoing large-scale construction. It is estimated that by the end of 2016, the total operational mileage of Beijing Subway will exceed 660 kilometers. In the long-term plan, by 2020, the total operational mileage will exceed 1,000 kilometers.
