JOB SUMMARY
Designs, fabricates, modifies, evaluates documents molded assemblies, components, systems to produce improve company products facilitate manufacturing operations. Develops data makes preliminary sketches, lay-outs notes required to present design proposals. Researches basic design factors such as ease of manufacture availability of materials equipment. Works with otherganizations impacted by design development.
May perform work in a specific sub-specialty such as Automation, Mechanical Engineering, Mold Design, Tooling. Please see addendum fspecific sub-specialty requirements. This description is designed to capture the general elements of Engineering work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design develops complex plastic molded sub-assemblies, components, packaging as assigned.
- Develops implements changes to product design and/the manufacturing process to achieve efficiency, quality, and/cost improvements by participating in new product development programs.
- Develops requirement specifications, system concepts, CAD generated machine layouts, detail drawings, BOM’s budgets. Makes layouts of complex assemblies details of parts of devices, mechanisms structures.
- Provides customer product design engineering feconomic production; may participate in meetings with customers.
- Assesses proper material, tooling, automation equipment selection.
- Works with manufacturing to trouble-shoot problems, upgrades, retrofits, set-ups, methods development, the development of process parameters.
- Participates in product development meetings may make recommendations to product design changes to enhance manufacturing assembly.
- Conduct proof of concept experiments design other testing requirements as needed.
- Develop SOP’s operations maintenance manuals.
- Research new technology development tools to remain informed of current technology.
- Understanding of Lean Six Sigma tools, projects processes ability to incorporate these assigned engineering projects.
- May assume lead role in small sub-section of large project, as assigned.
- Reviews completed projects faccuracy, clarity completeness.
- Ensures projects are compliant with all local, regional, national regulatory requirements, codes controls.
- Supports all company safety quality programs initiatives.
- May perform other duties responsibilities as assigned.
Engineering Addendum
Automation
Technical responsibility fdesign development of automation requirement specification systems concepts installs automation transfer automation programs to production in a smooth timely manner.
CAD/CAE
Technical responsibility fdesign production of 2D 3D representations of plastic injection molded assemblies, components, packaging products.
Mechanical
Technical responsibility fa variety of engineering work in planning design of products, tools, engines, machines other mechanically functioning equipment mechanical industrial processes; oversees production, installation, operation, maintenance repair of such equipment.
Materials
Technical responsibility fthe manipulation of the molecular structure of substances used to new material fuse in products, specifically working with plastics composites that meet certain mechanical, chemical electrical requirements. Responsible fdetermining test performance requirements. Develops test methodologies procedures tests materials as required.
Mold Design
Technical responsibility fthe design development of molds used to produce plastic assemblies, components packaging involving environmental, mechanical thermal limitations. May design build prototypes. May conduct mold qualifications validations on new molds using various experiments. Involves robust knowledge of scientific molding methodologies.
Packaging
Technical responsibility fthe design development of packing materials, shipping containers, etc., fattractive safe shipping of products under varying conditions of climate environment, differing modes of transportation, using lubricants, protective material, other methods as required
Tooling
Technical responsibility fdesigning a broad range of tools, including cutting forming tools; designs jigs, dies, fixtures fproduction experimental use; resolves design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures processes costs. Applies standard mathematical formulas standard tool engineering data to develop tool configuration selects standard items fincorporation tool design. Draws preliminary sketches prepares layout detail drawings. Modifies tool designs according to test production service data to improve tool life performance.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
- Understands processes has a basic understanding of various manufacturing techniques
- Strong knowledge of engineering theories, design principles practices, design evaluation techniques.
- Proficiency in use of personal computers, Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word PowerPoint) e-mail skills required.
