IKEA is a Swedish home furnishing retailer. It is a multinational private home furnishing retail enterprise. IKEA has stores in multiple countries around the world, selling flat-pack furniture, accessories, bathroom and kitchen products, and other items. IKEA is a pioneer in selling self-assembled furniture at affordable prices and is currently a global furniture retail enterprise. As of December 2008, IKEA had 292 large stores in 36 countries and regions worldwide (of which 258 were owned by the IKEA Group and 34 were franchised). Most stores are located in Europe, with others in the United States, Canada, Asia, and Australia. The IKEA catalog, printed with an annual volume of up to 100 million copies, features approximately 12,000 products and is claimed to be the most widely distributed book besides the Bible. The Chinese name "宜家" not only takes the homophone of IKEA but also references the idiom "宜室宜家" to signify bringing harmony and happiness to family life.
