Shanghai Environmental Engineering Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd. and its subsidiary Shanghai Environmental Sanitation Engineering Design Institute Co., Ltd. (referred to as "Shanghai Environmental Institute") were founded in 1983. It is a subsidiary of Shanghai Environment Group Co., Ltd., and is a national high-tech enterprise, a key high-tech enterprise of the National Torch Plan, an innovative enterprise in Shanghai, and a Shanghai Science and Technology Little Giant enterprise.
Shanghai Environmental Engineering Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd. has established specialized departments including the Engineering Technology Research Center, Environmental Engineering Design Institute, Municipal Appearance and Environmental Sanitation Planning Institute, Incineration Technology Center, and Environmental Sanitation Monitoring Center. It holds national Class A professional qualification certificates for engineering design and engineering consulting, and undertakes management functions such as the National Technical Committee on Urban and Rural Environmental Sanitation Standards and the Technical Return Unit for Urban and Rural Environmental Sanitation Standards of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.
