Job Overview
The Data Devices Business Unit is looking fa Staff R&D Product Development Engineer (PDE) to design develop socket, high speed connectcable assembly solutions. In this role you will be responsible fthe design documentation of new products, from market definition through production release. You will conceiveiginal ideas fnew products/solutions develop them practical economical models. You will determine specifications, perform engineering analysis, make preliminary sketches designs, coordinate support operations (such as fabrication engineering samples testing). Interaction with customers, vendors, marketing sales personnel, other engineering areas during the pre-production stages of new products is also an important part of this role.
Responsibilities:
• Responsible fproduct development of socket, high-speed connector, cable assembly solutions from market definition through production release:
o Work closely with the customer TE Product Managers/Sales/Field Application Engineers in getting the right clear VOC (voice of customer) convert to a TE design conceptualization preliminary product specification.
o Conceive concepts perform feasibility studies.
o Run mechanical thermal simulations.
o Make the engineering evaluation/proposal to the customer.
o the detailed design including 2D/3D drawings perform DFMEA/tolerance analysis.
o Build prototype samples perform validation.
o Complete product qualification finalize product specification.
o Provide technical support to the Operations team including Quality Production fefficiency improvement safe launch.
o Resolve product related issues to closure manage the ECN/PCN (Engineering Change Notification/ Product Change Notification).
• Build a deep understanding of the market customer needs by fostering a connection between the business engineering teams the customer engineering teams.
• Maintain a system level understanding of the customer application the product design/concept necessary fproviding a solution to the customers’ expectation.
• Follow the LEANPD Project Process to support the project team from the product development engineering (PDE) perspective to complete the new product development project on time, quality budget. Drive the development release of product, scale-up through stage-gate reviews, ensuring milestone commitments are maintained.
• Provide technical support to customer, sales, PM plant teams. Conduct necessary DFMEA, tests, engineering analysis, trouble shooting verification.
• Work with global manufacturing resources, procurement, outside suppliers to meet all TE technical, quality, cost objectives.
• Execute technical documentation to fully detail design drawings requirements, engineering product change notices, design history files.
Required Skills/Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering equivalent work experience.
• 12+ years of relevant mechanical engineering work experience with electrical components, electrical devices, mechanical structure design, manufacturing tooling development (stamping, molding, assembly, plating), manufacturing process development.
• Knowledge in socket design, connectdesign, other relevant mechanical design development.
• Knowledge in relevant mechanical design development, including but not limited to, material selection, tolerance analysis, DFMEA, product qualification, etc.
• Expert in 3D Design Applications (such as Creo, Spaceclaim, etc.)
• Proficient in geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T). Proficient at limit fit analysis including statistical tolerance analysis.
• Proficient user of finite element analysis software (Ansys, Workbench) including elastic plastic behaviof metals.
• Proficient in developing writing design objectives fproduct specifications
• In depth knowledge in manufacturing process (machining, molding, stamping, plating, assembly, etc.) with experience driving Design fManufacturing (DFM)
• Fluent in English (both verbal written) to facilitate global communication both internally with external customers.
• Ability to work in a global environment – able to accommodate varying time zones capable of collaborating with individuals across geographies.
• Advanced problem solver – able to handle moderate complexity situations use data analytics critical thinking to reach logical conclusions with limited direction
Nice To Have Skills/Experience:
• Master’s degree in Engineering related field
• Working knowledge in raw material, industry standard, product application
• Proficient use of quality tools (FMEA, 6 sigma, DOE, 8D, etc.)
• In depth knowledge of contact physics including plating systems felectrical contacts, pore blocker contact lubricants, copper alloys used in connectors, high temp plastics.
• General knowledge of communication theory including impedance matching transmission line/signal integrity.
• In depth knowledge of test methods felectrical connectors.
• Thermal management experience in high-speed signal transmission.
• Strongganizational time management skills with an ability to manage execute multiple tasks/deadlines/projects simultaneously with limited direction.
• Solid presentation skills with an ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Ability to prepare present customer facing solutions to accurately communicate design concepts engineering proofs.
• Proficient in lead technical discussions in Project Teams
• Proficient using MS office software (Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook, MS Teams, etc.)
