长江流域农林科学院始创于1984年，主要从事长江流域农业、林业新品种的科学研究与试验，中试基地生产、经营与技术推广；长江流域堤防绿色植被保护；长江水域珍稀水产的研究保护与繁殖；是长江流域农业、林业及自然科学研究之科研单位。主营农作物、林果花卉、蔬菜、食用菌、中药材、禽水产、畜牧、种籽、种苗、技术推广；动植物添加剂生产销售；农副产品加工与销售。
2001年，我院与武汉市人民政府共同投资兴建的山农业科技示范园是集科研生产试验、良种繁育示范与推广于一体的大型市级农业科技示范园
