Tongling Nonferrous Metals Group Holding Co., Ltd. was ordered to be restored and constructed by the central government in December 1949, previously known as Tongguanshan Mining Bureau, officially put into production in June 1952. It was one of the 156 key projects during China's First Five-Year Plan period, an important copper industry base built earliest in New China, and the cradle of China's copper industry. The company was originally a central government-owned enterprise and underwent multiple reforms. In July 2000, it was placed under the management of the Anhui Provincial People's Government, directly supervised by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Anhui Province. In May 2006, with the approval of Anhui Provincial State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, Tongling Nonferrous Metals (Group) Company was restructured into Tongling Nonferrous Metals Group Holding Co., Ltd., transforming from a factory-based super-large enterprise into a modern corporate group conforming to modern enterprise system requirements. The company currently has 7 wholly-owned subsidiaries and 15 holding subsidiaries. From the resumption of production of Tongguanshan Copper Mine (Tongguanshan Mining Bureau) in 1952 and the pouring of the first furnace of copper water in New China (produced by the First Smelter, the first smelter in New China) to the present, after more than half a century of construction, the company has developed into a large state-owned enterprise group with nonferrous metals (geology, mining, mineral processing, smelting, and processing) as its core main business, chemical industry and equipment manufacturing as related main businesses, and diversified development in related industries such as geological exploration, scientific research and design, tunnel construction, logistics and transportation, and real estate development.
