中国铁通集团有限公司（China Tie Tong）的前身是铁道通信信息有限责任公司，成立于2000年12月26日，共有省级分公司31个，地市分公司321个，员工7万人，系国有大型基础电信运营企业。2004年1月20日，经国务院批准，由铁道部移交国资委管理，更名为“中国铁通集团有限公司”，2004年6月，被国资委列为董事会试点企业。2004年8月，各分公司又相继成立自己的下属单位，定名为“铁通工程建设有限责任公司”，经营范围包括通信、信号、电力工程的勘察、设计施工及监理；计算机系统集成与维护；生产、销售电线电缆；维修家用电器等。
