镜湖医院创建于清代同治十年, 西元1871年, 是一所由华人创办与管理的慈善医院,*初办院宗旨为赠医施药, 安置疯残﹑停寄棺柩﹑殓葬﹑修路﹑救灾﹑赈济, 以致排难解纷﹑兴学育才等慈善工作, 无不为之。是从简陋的中医中药为主发展起来, 承担当时澳门的医疗防疫等大部份任务。
1892年年青的孙中山先生毕业于香港雅白士学校, 即来澳门镜湖医院行医, 悬壸济世,创办西医西药, 义务服务于人群。其医术精明, 贫苦受益, 而声誉濠江。
