湘潭市第五人民医院始建于1959年，座落于湘潭市城区主干道北二环路繁华地段，是一所以精神科、传染病科、老年病科为主的集临床医疗、教学、科研、康复、预防保健于一体的公益一类大型二级甲等医院（县处级事业单位）。医院占地面积100亩，拥有中高级专业技术人员223人，开设精神科、失眠心理科、综合科等13个临床医技科室，开放病床1000张，是湘潭市精神卫生中心、传染病救治中心和老年病康复中心。其中精神卫生中心是省内成立*早、规模*大、技术力量*雄厚的地市级精神专科医院之一，精神科是湘潭市首批临床重点专科，在省内外享有较高声誉。老年病康复中心是湘潭市*专业为老年人服务的重点专科，传染病救治中心是市政府积极规划建设的湘潭市传染病医院。按“大专科、小综合”的发展规划，积极打造长株潭一流的以精神卫生、传染病为主叁级甲等专科医院。
