邵阳市高级技工学校于2004年5月经邵阳市人民政府批准，由原邵阳市*、二两所省级重点技工学校组建而成（分别创建于1979年和1973年），2005年3月经国家劳动和社会保障部批准为“国家重点技工学校”，同时取得了“高级技工学校”的办学资格。属湖南省大型技工学校之一。2006年经邵阳市人民政府批准，创办邵阳技师学院，并纳入邵阳市五年规划，2006年7月市人民政府第11次常务会议决定在邵阳市教育区域内划拨486亩土地作为学校新校址。
