In April 2001, the world-renowned automobile company, Ford Motor Company, and China's century-old enterprise, Chang'an Automobile Group, jointly signed an agreement to establish Chang'an Ford Automobile Co., Ltd. (Chang'an Ford), which officially commenced production in early 2003. Over the past 10 years, Chang'an Ford has developed rapidly and has grown into a large modern automobile enterprise with cross-regional and multi-brand production and operation capabilities. Currently, Chang'an Ford produces and sells models including Ford Classic Focus, Ford New Focus, Ford S-MAX, Ford Mondeo-Zhisheng, Ford Fiesta Hatchback, Ford Fiesta Trend, Ford Kuga, and Ford EcoSport.
To support future development plans, on April 19, 2012, Chang'an Ford announced the construction of a new vehicle plant in Hangzhou. With this, Chang'an Ford's annual production capacity will exceed 1.2 million vehicles. As part of Chang'an Ford's capacity expansion plan, the Hangzhou Branch integrates four major processes: stamping, welding, painting, and assembly, with a total planned investment of 7.5 billion RMB, mainly producing mid-to-high-end models in the Ford system. The Hangzhou Branch adopts Ford's globally most advanced process and equipment. The first phase has an annual capacity of 250,000 units, with an annual output value of up to 50 billion RMB. The second phase will reach an annual capacity of 500,000 units, with an annual output value exceeding 100 billion RMB.
The Hangzhou Branch plans to use 2,100 mu of land, with an additional 1,000 mu reserved for the development of core components such as engines and transmissions. The first phase of the project commenced construction in August 2012 and is expected to be officially put into production in January 2015, fully supporting Chang'an Ford's future product plans after production begins.
As an important milestone in Chang'an Ford's development, the Hangzhou Branch will become a key production base for Chang'an Ford's mid-to-high-end models.
