古城砀山是个传统白酒产区，所出产的白酒酒体醇厚，香气馥郁，唐朝诗人李白曾在《秋夜与刘砀山泛宴嬉亭池》一诗中赞道：“令人欲泛海，只待长风吹。”1955年4月，国营砀山县酒厂建立，此后酒厂步入了稳定发展阶段，到上个世纪80年代中期，年产量近5000吨，所生产的宴嬉台牌系列白酒品质优良，广受皖、苏、鲁、豫等省消费者的喜爱，市场还曾经远及浙江、福建、湖南等地。
