Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences

The Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering (NIMTE), Chinese Academy of Sciences, established in April 2004, is a directly affiliated research institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Zhejiang Province, covering an area of 200 mu. After nine years of development, the institute has 841 employees, including 183 scientists introduced from overseas, 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 8 from the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, 19 from Zhejiang Province, and 30 from the CAS "Hundred Talents Program", among whom 185 are senior professional titles and 95 are associate senior titles, forming over 50 innovation teams. It has established 12 graduate training points and 2 postdoctoral research stations, having recruited 727 graduate students and 187 postdoctoral researchers. The institute has obtained competitive funding of over 1.11 billion yuan, published over 1,200 papers, filed 924 patents, participated in the formulation of 6 industry standards, and possesses 11 platforms and laboratories, including the National Engineering Laboratory of the National Development and Reform Commission, provincial-ministerial co-constructed key laboratories, and CAS key laboratories. It has carried out fruitful scientific and technological cooperation with large domestic and international enterprises, successfully transferred 8 major scientific and technological achievements, and many achievements have had significant impact in China. In 2009, NIMTE initiated the second phase of construction, namely the Ningbo Industrial Technology Research Institute (NITRI). Upon completion, NITRI will have three non-legal-person institutes: the Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, the Institute of New Energy Technology, and the Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, with branches in Wenzhou and Cixi. The total investment for the second phase is about 810 million yuan, with a total building area of 92,000 square meters, and acceptance is scheduled for 2014. After completion, NITRI will cover a total area of 130,000 square meters and employ 2,500 personnel. Adhering to the concept of "Global talents, local innovation; global technologies, local integration," NITRI aims to form an organic combination of materials, devices, system design, and solutions through breakthroughs in key technologies and integrated innovation.
