Cummins was founded in February 1919 and is headquartered in Columbus, Indiana, USA. The company serves customers through more than 600 distribution organizations and over 6,500 dealer outlets in more than 190 countries and regions worldwide. Cummins employs more than 54,600 people worldwide and achieved sales of US$17.5 billion in 2016.

Cummins is a Fortune 500 company in the United States and has been selected for nine consecutive years by Fortune magazine as one of the "World's Most Admired Companies." It is the *** diesel engine company on the list.

Since 2006, Cummins has been continuously included in the Dow Jones North America Sustainability Index for its outstanding performance in economic development, environmental protection, and social responsibility. Among the world's *** 2,500 companies, only those ranking in the top 10% in key sustainability indicators can be included in this list.

Cummins is composed of four mutually independent yet complementary business units

Engine Business Unit
The Engine Business Unit manufactures and distributes a wide range of diesel and natural gas engines and related component products for automotive, industrial, and power generation equipment applications. Cummins engines range from 2.8 to 91 liters in displacement and from 60 to 3,500 horsepower, and are widely used in on-highway vehicles such as heavy-duty trucks, medium-duty trucks, buses, recreational vehicles, light commercial vehicles, and pickup trucks, as well as off-highway fields such as construction machinery, mining equipment, agricultural machinery, marine, and rail. Cummins engines not only are renowned in the industry for first-class reliability, durability, and fuel economy, but have also maintained an industry-leading position in the intense competition to meet increasingly stringent automotive emissions standards (US EPA 2010, Euro IV and V), off-highway mobile machinery emissions (Tier 4 interim/Stage IIIB), and marine engine emissions (International Maritime Organization IMO standards).
Since the late 1990s, the power range of Cummins engine products has expanded significantly, and the number of product platforms has doubled.

Power Generation Business Unit
The Cummins Power Generation Business Unit is a leading global supplier of power generation systems and related component products and services. Its products are used for standby power, distributed power generation, and auxiliary power on mobile equipment, and can meet customers' diverse power needs. The unit also provides comprehensive services and power solutions including long-term operation and maintenance agreements, turnkey projects, and temporary power.
The Power Generation Business Unit's product line includes diesel and alternative fuel generator sets (2.5 kW to 2.7 MW), alternators (0.6 KVA to 30,000 KVA), generator set engines, control systems, transfer switches (40 amps to 3,000 amps), and switchgear, widely used in office buildings, hospitals, factories, municipal facilities, power plants, universities, recreational vehicles, yachts, and home power supplies.
Distribution Business Unit
The Distribution Business Unit consists of 17 Cummins-owned distributors and 15 joint venture distributors, covering more than 300 locations in over 70 countries and regions worldwide, providing Cummins products, parts, and after-sales service to customers globally.
Through Cummins' global distribution service system, specially trained Cummins service personnel provide customers with comprehensive parts and service support.
Cummins' wholly owned distribution network covers key markets worldwide, including China, India, Japan, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, and South Africa. The system also supports 5,200 Cummins dealer outlets around the world.
Components Business Unit

Cummins Filtration (formerly Fleetguard)
Air, fuel, hydraulic, and lubricant filters for diesel and gas engines, as well as various chemical additives.
Cummins Turbo Technologies (formerly Holset)
Full range of turbochargers and related products for diesel and natural gas engines above three liters, mainly used in global commercial vehicle and industrial markets.
Cummins Emission Solutions
Exhaust catalytic purification systems and related products for medium- and heavy-duty diesel engines, with business mainly including supporting new models for OEMs and retrofitting in-use vehicles. Its main products include integrated catalytic purification systems, dedicated components for aftertreatment systems, and system integration services for engine manufacturers.

Rooted in China, creating brilliance together
The historical relationship between Cummins and China can be traced back more than half a century to the 1940s. On March 11, 1941, U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt signed the Lend-Lease Act, providing wartime aid to 38 countries including China. The military aid to China under the Lend-Lease Act included river defense patrol boats and trucks equipped with Cummins engines.
In late 1944, a Chongqing enterprise wrote to Cummins seeking to establish business contacts and carry out localized production of Cummins engines in China. Elvin Miller, then general manager of Cummins Engine Company, expressed strong interest in his reply and hoped that Cummins could build a plant in China after the Sino-Japanese War ended. Due to well-known reasons, Mr. Miller's idea could only be expected to become reality thirty years later in the 1970s, along with the gradual easing of China-U.S. relations.
Cummins and its affiliated subsidiaries have invested more than US$1 billion in China cumulatively. As the *** foreign investor in China's diesel engine industry, Cummins' business ties with China began in 1975, when then Cummins Chairman Elvin Miller first visited Beijing, becoming one of the * American entrepreneurs to come to China seeking business cooperation. In 1979, when China and the United States established diplomatic relations and China began opening up, the first Cummins office in China was established in Beijing.
Cummins was one of the * Western diesel engine companies to carry out localized engine production in China. In 1981, the Chongqing Engine Plant began licensed production of Cummins engines, and in 1995 Cummins' *** Chinese joint venture engine factory was established. To date, Cummins has established a total of 26 institutions in China, including 15 wholly owned and joint venture enterprises, with more than 9,000 employees, producing products such as engines, generator sets, alternators, filtration systems, turbocharging systems, aftertreatment, and fuel systems, and has a service network consisting of 12 regional service centers, more than 30 customer support platforms, and more than 300 authorized dealers.
Cummins has long insisted on forming strategic alliances with large Chinese enterprises to achieve common development. As one of the * foreign-funded diesel engine enterprises to carry out localized production in China, over more than thirty years Cummins has established four engine joint ventures with leading Chinese commercial vehicle companies including Dongfeng Motor, Shaanxi Automobile Group, and Foton Motor. Of Cummins' 18 engine series, 11 are already produced locally in China.
Cummins was the *** foreign diesel engine company to establish an R&D center in China. In August 2006, the engine technology R&D center jointly established by Cummins and Dongfeng Motor was officially opened in Wuhan, Hubei.
In 2010, Cummins' sales in China exceeded US$3.1 billion, and the China region had become Cummins' *** and fastest-growing overseas market globally.
After more than thirty years of development, Cummins has become an organic part of China's engine industry and, through joint ventures/wholly owned production and technology transfer, has made its own contribution to the modernization of China's engine industry.
