Takata Corporation was established in Japan in 1933, and has been dedicated to the research and development of automotive safety systems since the 1950s, with a history of half a century.

Takata (Shanghai) Auto Parts Manufacturing Co., Ltd. is a wholly foreign-owned enterprise invested by the Takata Group of the United States. It entered Shanghai, China in 2002, and is currently located in the Shanghai Qingpu Industrial Park, covering an area of over 75,000 square meters. In November 2011, Takata (Shanghai) Automotive Safety Systems R&D Co., Ltd., representing Takata's R&D strength in China, was officially established.

The Takata Group has 55 factories, R&D centers, and sales networks in 20 countries and regions worldwide, with a total of over 36,000 employees. As one of the world's top three automotive safety system suppliers, Takata (Shanghai) has always been a leader in the R&D of automotive safety devices and their components, including airbags, steering wheels, seat belts, airbag inflators, and child safety seats.
