As a participant in China's nuclear energy development strategy, Westinghouse has advanced the development of China's nuclear power industry through comprehensive technology transfer and involvement in infrastructure construction.
In the 1980s, China introduced 300 MW and 600 MW turbine generator sets from Westinghouse Electric Corporation. Subsequently, the company provided technical services, equipment supply, and equipment inspection and repair services for Qinshan Phase I, Qinshan Phase II, and Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station. In 2007, Westinghouse secured construction contracts for the self-reliance demonstration projects at Zhejiang Sanmen and Shandong Haiyang nuclear power plants, building four 1000 MW-class AP1000 units at both sites. Currently, these two projects have been connected to the grid successively, laying a solid foundation for Westinghouse's development in the Chinese market.
Over the years, Westinghouse has continuously consolidated and expanded its business in China, implementing a localization development strategy. On July 16, 2012, it established Westinghouse Electric Management (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. in Shanghai as its regional operations center in China, responsible for planning and managing all its commercial activities in the country.
