中国铁通集团有限公司（简称“中国铁通”）的前身是铁道通信信息有限责任公司，成立于2000年12月20日，共有省级分公司31个，地市分公司321个，员工7万人，系国有大型基础电信运营企业。2004年1月20日，经国务院批准，由铁道部移交国资委管理，更名为“中国铁通集团有限公司”，2008年5月23日，中国铁通集团有限公司正式并入中国移动通信集团公司，成为其全资子公司，保持相对独立运营。2009年12月15日，铁通公司将铁路通信业务、人员移交铁道部。铁路通信专网剥离后，铁通公司继续作为中国移动的全资子公司，从事公众通信业务。
