China Coal Technology and Engineering Group Wuhan Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd. was founded in 1954. It was formerly a design and research institute directly under the Ministry of Coal Industry, and is now affiliated with China Coal Technology and Engineering Group Co., Ltd., which is directly supervised by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council. It is a wholly state-owned central enterprise and a comprehensive Grade A survey and design institute with a glorious history.

It currently has more than 700 employees, including more than 600 professional and technical personnel. It has many senior specialists, including national survey masters, experts receiving special government allowances from the State Council, and well-known experts. There are more than 80 professor-level senior engineers and more than 200 senior engineers. There are more than 260 registered engineers of various types, including Class 1 registered architects, structural engineers, cost engineers, public utility engineers, electrical engineers, mining engineers, mineral processing engineers, mechanical engineers, environmental impact assessment engineers, road engineers, survey engineers, safety engineers, and supervision engineers. It also has members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS). It holds nearly twenty Grade A qualifications, including mining engineering. Its business scope covers mining areas, mines, open-pit mines, coal preparation plants, coal chemical supporting projects, mining area machine repair plants, power transmission and transformation and automation projects, railways, highways, municipal roads and bridges and tunnels, long-distance pipeline coal transportation, water supply, sewage treatment plants, industrial and civil building design and planning, and other fields. It can provide comprehensive high-quality services in engineering design, engineering consulting, engineering survey, engineering general contracting, production and operation, and engineering supervision.

Over the past sixty years, Wuhan Design Co., Ltd. has undertaken more than 100 overall development plans for mining areas and more than 500 pairs of mines in more than 20 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions across the country, as well as more than 50 coal preparation plant designs. There are 29 mines and coal preparation plants with a capacity of 5 million tons/year or more, and 14 mines and coal preparation plants with a capacity of 10 million tons/year or more.

It holds a Grade A qualification for open-pit mine engineering design and has undertaken the design of many large open-pit coal mines and non-ferrous metal mines. It has representative open-pit mine design projects in Xinjiang, Yunnan, Hubei, and other regions, including 6 projects with a scale of 5 million tons/year or more and 3 projects with a scale of 10 million tons/year or more.

In recent years, it has won more than 400 awards, including national and provincial/ministerial science and technology progress awards, survey and design awards, consulting awards, and enterprise management modernization innovation achievement awards. Our institute was awarded the title of National Advanced Unit in Engineering Survey by the Ministry of Construction. Since 2004, it has been continuously awarded the title of Hubei Provincial Civilized Unit. In 2006, it was awarded the title of National Excellent Survey and Design Institute by the China Survey and Design Association. In 2008, it was rated as an advanced unit in comprehensive management in Hubei Province. In 2008, it was rated as an outstanding contribution unit for Hubei enterprises in the 30 years of reform and opening up. In 2009, our institute's Party Committee was rated as one of the "Top Ten" advanced grassroots party organizations in Wuhan. In 2011, our institute's Party Committee was awarded the honorary title of "Advanced Grassroots Party Organization" by the Wuhan Municipal Party Committee. In 2011, our institute was also rated as a AAA credit enterprise in the coal industry and in Wuhan. In 2013, it won the 8th National Productivity Theory and Practice Model Enterprise Award.
