VIPKID

VIPKID is the fastest-growing online English education brand for children worldwide, offering 1-on-1 online classes with pure North American teachers, connecting Chinese children with North American teachers via the internet. VIPKID uses the CCSS immersive teaching method benchmarked against U.S. elementary school standards to help children learn happily. In August 2017, VIPKID launched Lingo Bus, an online Chinese education platform for children with 100% immersive teaching, marking its official foray into Chinese language education overseas. As of August 2019, VIPKID had over 700,000 paying students and more than 90,000 North American teachers.
In October 2014, VIPKID secured a $5 million Series A funding round led by Matrix Partners China, with joint investment from Innovation Works and Sequoia Capital.
In October 2015, VIPKID received a $20 million Series B funding round led by Northern Light Venture Capital, with participation from Matrix Partners China, Sequoia Capital, and Innovation Works.
In April 2016, VIPKID received additional investment from ZhenFund. In August 2016, VIPKID secured a $100 million Series C funding round led by Yunfeng Capital, with Sequoia Capital following, setting a record for the largest single investment in the global online children's English education sector.
In August 2016, Kobe Bryant announced the establishment of his venture capital fund "Bryant Stibel" and made a strategic investment in VIPKID. Learn Capital, a U.S. education venture fund, also participated in this investment.
In October 2016, VIPKID, together with global education venture capital firm Learn Capital and North American scholars, established the VIPKID North American Education Research Institute, investing $10 million in teaching research to improve children's learning levels and efficiency through cutting-edge technology.
In April 2017, VIPKID entered into a deep cooperation with the Jack Ma Foundation, becoming a professional English education institution on the foundation's education public welfare platform.
In August 2017, VIPKID secured a $200 million Series D funding round led by Sequoia Capital, with strategic investment from Tencent, and participation from Yunfeng Capital, Matrix Partners China, ZhenFund, ZTwo Capital, and others. This was also the largest single investment in the global K12 online education sector at that time. On the same day, Lingo Bus was officially launched.
In June 2018, a $500 million Series D+ funding round was led jointly by Coatue, Tencent, Sequoia Capital China, and Yunfeng Capital.
In October 2019, Tencent led VIPKID's Series E funding round.
