China Life Insurance (Group) Company is a state-owned super-large financial insurance enterprise, headquartered in Beijing, and a Fortune Global 500 enterprise. The company's predecessor was the original People's Insurance Company of China, established in 1949. In 1996, it was split into China Life Insurance Co., Ltd., and in 1999, it was renamed China Life Insurance Company. In 2003, with the approval of the State Council and the China Insurance Regulatory Commission, the original China Life Insurance Company was restructured into China Life Insurance (Group) Company, with business scope comprehensively covering life insurance, property insurance, pension insurance (enterprise annuity), asset management, alternative investment, overseas business, e-commerce, and other fields. Through capital operations, it has also taken stakes in several banks, securities companies, and other financial and non-financial institutions. China Life Insurance (Group) Company and its subsidiaries constitute the largest state-owned financial insurance group in China. In 2013, total premium income reached 386.8 billion yuan, with a domestic life insurance market share of 31.6%, and total assets of 2,407.1 billion yuan, making it one of the largest institutional investors in China's capital market. It has been selected into the Fortune Global 500 for 12 consecutive years, ranking 98th; and has been listed in the World's 500 Most Influential Brands for 7 consecutive years, ranking 237th. Its subsidiary life insurance company, after being listed simultaneously in New York and Hong Kong in December 2003, returned to the domestic A-share market in January 2007, becoming the "first insurance stock" in the mainland capital market and the world's first insurance company listed in New York, Hong Kong, and Shanghai, and has become the world's largest listed life insurance company by market value.
