场部拥有大专以上学历科技人员45人，其中高级职称的科技人员科技人员8人。与湖南省蔬菜研究所联合建立了开放式湘潭市蔬菜研究室，是全市重点农业科研单位。拥有具有自主知识产权的杂交水稻品种5个、蔬菜地方优良原种23个、拥有一项*新型育苗技术——水培漂浮育苗技术。场部设有蔬菜研究室和水稻研究室两个研发示范推广机构，近年来共获得各级各类科研成果奖26项，其中省市级科技进步奖14项。
