Wuhan University of Science and Technology Hospital

Wuhan University of Science and Technology Hospital is a non-profit "Grade II General Hospital" sponsored by Wuhan University of Science and Technology. It consists of the Huangjiahu Main Campus, Qingshan Campus, Hongshan Outpatient Department, and the Qingling 120 Emergency Station of Wuhan Emergency Center. The main campus is located at the south gate of Wuhan City --- Huangjiahu University Town, Hongshan District, providing medical services to over 60,000 faculty members and university students, as well as nearly 150,000 residents and floating population in the Qingling and Baishazhou areas.

Currently, the hospital covers an area of 40 mu, with medical buildings of 18,700 m2. It has 22 clinical and medical technology departments, including General Practice, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine, Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Public Health, Emergency Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Pediatrics, Child Health Care, Gynecology, Stomatology, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Dermatology, Pain Management, Anesthesiology, Medical Imaging, Ultrasound Imaging, Clinical Laboratory, Operating Room, and Supply Room. It has inpatient wards including Cardiovascular/Neurology Ward, Respiratory/Endocrinology Ward, Gastroenterology/Nephrology Ward, Traditional Chinese Medicine Rehabilitation Ward, Surgery/Gynecology Comprehensive Ward, Geriatrics, and Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 299 inpatient beds. In 2015, there were 246,000 outpatient visits and 6,157 discharged patients.

The hospital currently has 277 staff members, including 1 selected for the Wuhan Yellow Crane Talent Program/receiving government expert allowance, 5 professors/chief physicians, 4 master's supervisors, 35 associate professors/associate chief physicians, 3 doctoral degree holders, 33 master's degree holders, and 75 intermediate-level professional technical personnel.

The hospital is equipped with 128-slice spiral CT, four-dimensional, three-dimensional, and portable color ultrasound, digital radiography (DR), C-arm X-ray machine, anesthesia machines, ventilators, laparoscopes, cystoscopes, electronic gastroscopes, electronic colonoscopes, electronic laryngoscopes, transcranial Doppler detectors, pulmonary function testers, fully automated biochemical analyzers, fully automated urine sediment analyzers, fully automated immunoluminescence analyzers, fully automated coagulation analyzers, fully automated five-part blood cell analyzers, hemodialysis machines, and other medical equipment and facilities, with a value of nearly 60 million yuan. The performance of most medical equipment has reached the equipment standards and requirements of Grade III Grade A hospitals.

Since 2012, the hospital has obtained 11 research projects from central government funds, National and Provincial Natural Science Foundations, Wuhan Science and Technology Research Projects, Hubei Provincial Department of Education, Hubei Provincial and Wuhan Municipal Health and Family Planning Commissions, with funding of nearly 7 million yuan. It is a community internship base for general practitioner training in Hubei Province, and a community internship base for resident physician standardized training of Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University and Zhongnan Hospital. Each year, it receives over 500 undergraduate trainees, over 40 undergraduate interns, 4-5 graduate interns, and trains 6-7 master's students in clinical, public health, and preventive medicine.

The hospital has established close medical cooperation with Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, Zhongnan Hospital, and Union Hospital of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Every month, twelve current department directors/professors from various clinical departments of "Grade III Grade A hospitals" are regularly invited to provide consultations and surgical guidance, and serve as consultants for family doctor teams, effectively enabling residents in the jurisdiction to access treatment for major and difficult diseases at their doorstep and enjoy the benefits of first-class expert medical services from tertiary hospitals.

The hospital has established a digital information system (HIS), including: outpatient and inpatient electronic medical records, electronic prescriptions, mobile doctor and nursing rounds systems, traditional Chinese medicine constitution identification, self-service health testing, health examination inquiry system, mobile follow-up work platform for family doctors, equipped with more than 200 computer terminals, established self-service registration and inquiry systems, planned immunization, ultrasound examination triage and calling systems. The Medical Imaging Department and Ultrasound Imaging Department have Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), the Clinical Laboratory has a Laboratory Information System (LIS), and imaging workstations have been established in the Emergency Department and inpatient wards, allowing CT, X-ray images, ultrasound images, and clinical test results to be retrieved immediately after patient examinations. The hospital has also established a comprehensive electronic monitoring system.

In 2015, the hospital was rated as a "Good Hospital Satisfying the People of Wuhan City" and is a model grassroots hospital for Hubei Province's innovation service model, first-visit at grassroots level, and hierarchical diagnosis and treatment reform. Its subordinate Hongshan District Qingling Street Community Health Service Center has been rated as a Hubei Province Demonstration Community Health Service Center, Hubei Province Grade A Community Health Service Center, and Hubei Province People-Satisfied Community Health Service Center.
