China Development Institute (Shenzhen, China), English name: CHINA DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE (abbreviated as CDI), was established in February 1989 in the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone under the advocacy of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, in response to the situation and needs of China's reform and opening-up. It was voluntarily jointly initiated by 116 economists, entrepreneurs, and social activists, including Ma Hong, Li Hao, Jiang Yiwei, Chen Jinhua, Gao Shangquan, Lin Ling, and Ji Zhong. It is the first comprehensive, policy-oriented, and national new-type think tank in China. Adhering to the principle of "rooted in Shenzhen, oriented towards the whole country, and going global," CDI conducts analysis and research on major theoretical and practical issues emerging in China's economic and social transformation, such as urbanization, marketization, and internationalization, providing high-quality intellectual support and scientific basis for decision-making by governments at all levels, enterprises, and social organizations. Over the 25 years since its establishment, CDI has carried out in-depth investigations and research on coastal, riverine, and border opening-up, regional economic development and cooperation, public policy and management, industrial development and planning, urban development and management, and enterprise development strategies. Many research reports have been widely adopted by Chinese governments at all levels and domestic and foreign enterprises and organizations due to their forward-looking, innovative, and practical nature. CDI takes it as its mission to promote China's reform and opening-up and the progress of human society, actively explores and innovates the operating mechanisms of China's new-type think tanks, strives to build a public policy research institution and new-type think tank with influence at home and abroad, and plays a positive role in enhancing China's soft power. CDI operates under a president responsibility system under the leadership of the council, unites talent with its distinctive institutional culture, stimulates vitality through management mechanism innovation, and has a team of 100 elites with theoretical literacy, practical experience, and dedication. After 25 years of development, CDI has become one of the most dynamic new-type think tanks in China.
