About the Company

China Railway Tunnel Survey and Design Institute Co., Ltd., affiliated to China Railway Group Limited, is an independent legal entity holding Class A qualifications for comprehensive engineering survey and engineering design issued by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, and Class A engineering consulting qualification certificates issued by the National Development and Reform Commission. It has passed the ISO9001/ISO14001/OHSAS18001 triple system certification and CMA metrological certification. It is a large-scale survey and design enterprise engaged in engineering services such as survey and design, consulting, construction drawing review, and supervision for railway tunnels, highway tunnels, municipal public works (roads, bridges, urban tunnels, rail transit), water conservancy and hydropower, industrial and civil buildings, geotechnical and underground engineering, and is also a high-tech enterprise in Tianjin.
Over the past decades, our institute has made significant achievements in railways, highways, municipal tunnels and underground engineering, urban rail transit, and underwater tunnels. We are recognized as the most comprehensive design institute in China for tunnel and underground engineering technology, forming six major competitive advantages:
First, railway tunnel design. Since the establishment of the institute, we have completed survey and design tasks for extra-long tunnel projects on trunk railways such as Beijing-Guangzhou, Daqin, Houyue, Nanning-Kunming, Neijiang-Kunming, and Beijing-Kowloon. In recent years, we have undertaken new railway constructions including Nanning-Guangzhou, Yunnan-Guangxi, Chengdu-Lanzhou, Jinhua-Wenzhou, Hengyang-Chaling-Ji'an, Shanxi Central-Southern Railway, Baoji-Lanzhou Passenger Dedicated Line, Taixing, Hangzhou-Huangshan, Qianjiang-Zhangjiajie-Changde, Menghua, and Yuncheng-Sanmenxia, involving 350 km/h passenger dedicated lines, 200 km/h lines, 160 km/h mixed passenger-freight lines, and 120 km/h 30-ton axle-load heavy-haul freight trunk lines. We have completed survey and design for more than 50 long and large tunnels, equivalent to over 700 kilometers of single-track, covering various fields of current railway technology development such as high-speed railways, passenger dedicated lines, interregional railways, and energy corridors. Our institute not only has mountain tunnel design technology but also masters new railway development technologies such as heavy-haul railways and passenger dedicated lines, forming a comprehensive set of integrated survey and design technologies for tunnels in adverse geological conditions including gas, swelling rock, soft rock, rockburst, karst caves, water inrush, and large-span loess tunnels. Particularly, our comprehensive survey and design for extra-long tunnels with complex geology enjoys high reputation in the industry.
Second, subway design. Since 1985, our institute has been engaged in urban rail transit design and is one of the earliest units in China to conduct rail transit design and research. To date, we have participated in the design of civil engineering works for rail transit in 36 cities across the country and overall design consulting and construction drawing review for 6 cities, cumulatively designing more than 500 subway stations with various construction methods and over 600 kilometers of single-track intervals. Especially in the field of subway civil engineering design, we have won full trust from the market and owners with high-quality design documents and excellent services. Sections with high technical difficulty and risk in each city are generally assigned to our institute for design.
Third, underwater tunnel design. In the field of underwater tunnel design, our institute holds a leading position with outstanding technical advantages, mainly reflected in: ① Most complete construction methods. We have mastered multiple underwater tunnel design methods including drill-and-blast, shield, immersed tube, and TBM methods, all with mature performance records, leading domestically. ② Leading design technology, richest experience, and most achievements. Since 2003, we have undertaken survey and design tasks for over 30 underwater tunnels crossing rivers, lakes, and seas, including the Guangzhou Bio-island and University Town immersed tube tunnels, Qingdao Jiaozhou Bay subsea tunnel, Foshan Fenjiang South Road immersed tube tunnel, Changsha Yingpan Road and Nanhu Road Xiangjiang tunnels, Nanjing Metro large-diameter shield river-crossing tunnel, Nanchang Ganjiang Honggu Tunnel, and Shantou Su'ai cross-sea passage. ③ High market recognition and renowned domestically.
Fourth, shallow-buried excavation technology. Our institute is one of the earliest units to test, research, and develop this construction method, and it has been widely applied in domestic subway stations, intervals, and shallow-buried tunnel projects. Whether in sand and pebble strata with low groundwater level in Beijing and Northeast China, loess strata in central regions, or water-rich mixed strata in the south, the shallow-buried excavation technology has been successfully applied in subway and other projects. Our institute has designed the most underground stations using this method and enjoys a high reputation in the industry.
Fifth, subway survey and detection technology. In subway construction control survey and third-party safety monitoring, our institute holds about 50% of the national market share, having undertaken engineering surveys for more than 70 subway lines in over 20 cities, third-party monitoring projects for over 40 subway lines, and control surveys for more than 30 long and large tunnels. We have accumulated rich experience in subway control survey and construction safety inspection, always maintaining a leading level. We have repeatedly won national, provincial, and ministerial awards for excellent survey and scientific and technological progress, and our achievements have been fully affirmed and highly evaluated by the industry. The independently developed remote monitoring management system, subway survey management system, and automated monitoring system have brought subway survey and monitoring management to a new level.
Sixth, tunnel advanced geological prediction technology. In the field of tunnel advanced geological prediction, our institute possesses advanced technical equipment and rich project prediction management experience, having successively undertaken advanced geological prediction work for numerous long railway tunnels domestically. We have maintained a long-term good cooperative relationship with the TSP product supplier, Swiss Amberg Group, and timely grasp the most advanced tunnel advanced geological prediction technology. Our institute is also the chief editor unit of the national standard "Technical Code for Advanced Geological Prediction of Railway Tunnels," with capabilities in tunnel advanced geological prediction at a first-class domestic level.
Over the years, the survey and design projects and scientific research achievements completed by our institute have won various national, provincial, and ministerial awards. These include 1 National Special Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress, 3 Second Prizes, 1 Third Prize for National Surveying and Mapping Scientific and Technological Progress; 5 Provincial and Ministerial Special Prizes for Scientific and Technological Progress, 13 First Prizes; 6 National Gold Awards for Excellent Design, 2 Silver Awards; 1 National First Prize for Excellent Engineering Consulting; 2 National Silver Awards for Excellent Surveying and Mapping Engineering; 8 China Civil Engineering Zhan Tianyou Awards; and 3 Luban Prizes in the construction industry.
