GEM Co., Ltd., established on December 28, 2001, in Shenzhen, China, was founded on the ideal of green eco-manufacturing (G—Green E—Eco M—Manufacture). GEM has been listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (stock code: 002340) and the SIX Swiss Exchange (GDR code: GEM), with a total share capital of 5.124 billion shares. It is China's first listed company in the circular economy and the first Chinese green enterprise to be listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange, with annual sales exceeding RMB 33 billion and over 11,000 employees.
GEM was the first in the world to propose the industrial concept of "limited resources, infinite recycling." Through the business model of mining urban mines, it aims to resolve the contradiction between resources and the environment, curb global greenhouse effects, and form a dual-track business of "urban mining + new energy materials manufacturing."
Over the past 20 years, GEM has grown from recycling small batteries to electronic waste, end-of-life vehicles, and key mineral resources such as cobalt, nickel, and tungsten, and further to power battery recycling and remanufacturing of power battery materials. It has established a multi-level urban mining demonstration model, including "battery recycling bins—waste recycling supermarkets—waste collection and distribution markets—low-carbon recycling plants—urban mining industrial parks." As a national urban mining demonstration base, national circular economy education demonstration base, national ecological environment science education base, and national green factory promoted globally, GEM has built 16 waste recycling plants and new energy material manufacturing bases in China, South Korea, Indonesia, and South Africa. Its waste recycling covers 8 provinces and cities in China, spanning 3,000 kilometers, establishing cooperative relationships with over 500 million people for waste recycling and with over 900 automobile and battery manufacturers globally, providing strong impetus for the implementation of carbon footprint and "battery passport" for global power batteries. GEM annually recycles and processes more than 10% of China's total retired power batteries, over 6% of China's total end-of-life vehicles, over 20% of China's primary nickel mining output in terms of recycled nickel resources, over 350% of China's primary cobalt mining output in terms of recycled cobalt resources, and over 10% of China's primary tungsten mining output in terms of recycled tungsten resources, making positive contributions to China's fight to protect the blue sky and becoming an advanced representative in promoting the development of a circular society and practicing green development concepts.
