医院始建于1951年春，前身是民国二十八年（1939年）八月省委员会派医佐到安南（现晴隆县）筹建的安南卫生所，1956年正式命名为晴隆县人民医院，系政府举办的公益性福利性全民事业单位。医院历经几代医务工作者的艰苦努力，现已成为本区辖区集医疗、教学、科研、预防保健为一体的技术指导中心，是晴隆县新型农村合作医疗、城镇居民医疗保险和交通事故救治、医疗保险、商业保险的定点医院。同时也是黔西南州职业技术学院教学实习基地和本县乡镇卫生院进修学习基地。肩负着全县辖区34万人民群众的医疗救治重任和基层医院的转诊任务。
