建于1975年的和田地区维吾尔医医院集全地区维吾尔医院治疗、教学、科研、药品开发与生产为一体，在治疗白癜风、男女科、皮肤科、糖尿病及心血管疾病方面颇有名气，南北疆甚至于中西亚地区的患者都慕名前来求医问药。医院还建立了传统民族医药生产厂，产品深受南北疆各族患者好评。全地区现有地县级维吾尔医院8所，在38个乡镇卫生院设有维吾尔医科，初步形成了维吾尔医疗、医药基础网络体系，成为全国*大的维吾尔医药材集散地。
