Decathlon is a full industry chain group company that integrates the research and development, design, branding, production, logistics, and sales of sporting goods. The group was founded in France in 1976 by Mr. Michel LECLERCQ. As of June 2019, it has opened more than 1,500 stores across six continents, with a team of over 90,000 employees, serving customers in 61 countries and regions.


Decathlon Group has its own product design and R&D centers, launching more than 3,000 new products each year, with over 30 own brands. Its products cover almost all mass sports, including mountain sports, water sports, cycling, roller skating and skateboarding, racket sports, golf, fitness, nature sports, and team sports. Own-brand products account for more than 85% of the products in its stores. The group's production lines are spread across 21 countries or regions globally, with more than 40% of its products sourced from China.


Decathlon entered China in 1989 to conduct procurement and production of sporting goods. To date, the company has established 4 own factories, 10 industrial purchasing offices, and 39 industrial on-site offices across the country.

In 2003, the group established the development of its sporting goods retail business in China as the group's primary strategy for the next decade, and relocated its Asia-Pacific office (including production and retail) from Hong Kong to Shanghai. The first Decathlon concept store officially opened in Pudong New District, Shanghai, in November 2003. As of July 31, 2019, Decathlon has 294 physical stores across approximately 112 cities in China. Its e-commerce business, launched in 2009, has developed rapidly, serving customers in about 400 cities.
