美团网于2010年3月4日正式上线，其宣传口号为“美团一次，美一次”。美团网主要目的是为消费者发现*值得信赖的商家，让消费者享受超低折扣的优质服务；为商家找到*合适的消费者，给商家提供*大收益的互联网推广。2014年12月，美团网单月交易额达到63亿元，单日交易额更突破3亿元。2015年1月18日，王兴表示，美团网已完成7亿美元融资，估值达到70亿美元。2015年6月，美团与海昌控股及大众点评签署战略合作协议。2015年上半年，美团交易额达到470亿元。2015年10月8日，美团网和大众点评网联合发布声明，宣布达成战略合作，双方已共同成立一家新公司。
