Guangzhou College of Commerce, formerly Zengcheng College of South China Normal University, is located in the 'Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City' in the northeastern part of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. This area is a bilateral cooperation project jointly created by Guangdong Province and Singapore to lead industrial transformation and upgrading, gathering educational, scientific research, and industrial resources with a unique geographical location. The college enrolled its first batch of students in 1999, making it the first new-mechanism secondary college in Guangdong Province and one of the first independent colleges nationwide. The college was granted the authority to confer bachelor's degrees in 2011, and in 2014, it became the first ordinary undergraduate university in Guangdong Province to be converted from an independent college. In May 2016, with approval from the Guangdong Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security, the college became the sixth batch of post-doctoral innovation practice base units in Guangdong Province. The college successfully passed the Ministry of Education's undergraduate teaching qualification evaluation in 2020. In 2021, the college was approved as a Guangdong Provincial Doctoral Workstation and a master's degree granting project construction unit. In 2023, the college was approved as a supporting unit for the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and its scientific research competitiveness entered the top 10 in the value-added evaluation of private universities nationwide, being rated as a 5-star 'China First-class Applied University' in the 2024 China Private University Rankings by CUAA. The college currently has 13 schools covering economics, management, engineering, literature, law, art, education, and other fields, offering 41 undergraduate programs and 13 junior college programs, with over 28,000 full-time students.
