新疆乌鲁木齐市第九十八中始建于1979年9月，原名米泉二中。1981年12月自治区教育厅将其确定为自治区重点中学，2005年秋季，按照上级人民政府实行民汉合校、分段办学，合理配置和优化教育资源的决定，将原米泉一中、维吾尔族中学、哈萨克族中学的初中部合并到米泉二中，高中部划拨到米泉一中，成为一所民汉合校完全初级中学。2008年7月，市人民政府办公厅将学校更名为乌鲁木齐市第98中学。乌鲁木齐市第九十八中学地处乌鲁木齐市米东区米泉南路568号
