Shenzhen Space-Exploration Interstellar Space Technology Research Institute is a private non-enterprise scientific research entity established to implement the strategic cooperation agreement between the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government and the China Astronaut Research and Training Center. It was registered and established in December 2014, and its address is No. 2-5, Pidi Industrial 3rd Road, Longgang District, Shenzhen. Based on the development needs of China's manned space program, the Institute carries out applied basic research, key technology tackling, and civil-military development of space technology in related fields such as space ecology and environmental technology, gravity environment effects and health maintenance technology, and aerospace nutrition and food engineering technology. It actively promotes the transformation of aerospace technological achievements, explores the cooperative research model of "using space for Earth" and "using Earth for space," and realizes the integrated development of aerospace science and technology and civil technology.
As one of the first key projects to settle in Shenzhen International Low Carbon City, with the support of the Shenzhen Municipal Government, the Institute launched the construction of three first-class scientific research and innovation platforms with complete facilities: the "Environmental Control and Ecological Technology Laboratory," the "Gravity Environment Effects and Health Maintenance Technology Laboratory," and the "Aerospace Nutrition and Food Engineering Laboratory." It developed and built China's *** integrated controlled ecological life support system test platform, with the capacity to carry out integrated test research on multi-person long-term controlled ecological life support systems. It applied for and established a postdoctoral innovation practice base, introduced and appointed *** high-level talents, and gathered and built a vibrant and energetic scientific research and innovation team. It was approved to establish a National International Science and Technology Cooperation Demonstration Base, laying the foundation for the Institute to attract and gather global scientific research intelligence and lead international science and technology cooperation. At the same time, the Institute has undertaken a series of scientific research projects, technology research and development, major experiments, and academic exchanges, and actively devotes itself to the transformation and application of technological achievements and the development of aerospace, life, and health future industries. On June 17, 2016, the Institute organized the "Space-Exploration Interstellar" 4-person 180-day controlled ecological life support system integration test. This was also the first large-scale "human and environment" experiment led by China with multinational participation, and it was at the advanced international level of similar experiments in terms of test scale, number of participants, duration, and technical requirements, attracting 16 domestic and foreign scientific research institutions to collaboratively carry out 21 participating projects.
In the future, the Institute will continue to adhere to the development positioning of "supporting manned spaceflight and serving society and people's livelihood," carry out pre-research on extraterrestrial planet survival technology, lay out the construction of major national science and technology infrastructure, build a two-way platform for civil-military integration scientific research innovation and technology transformation, and promote the in-depth development of scientific and technological innovation and civil-military integration.
