中国科学院寒区旱区环境与工程研究所（简称寒旱所）是按照中国科学院“知识创新工程试点”工作的战略部局要求，由中国科学院原兰州冰川冻土研究所、兰州沙漠研究所和兰州高原大气物理研究所通过学科定位、机构调整、研究领域交叉融合，在保留原有的特色学科基础上，凝练出优势研究方向，于一九九九年六月整合而成。
