佳木斯防爆电机研究所是1956年我国***代电机人赴苏联考察后筹建，并于1959年建成的我国***家工厂用防爆电气设备检验和颁发防爆合格证的单位。制订了中国***个防爆标准GB1336-77《防爆电气设备制造检验规程》。我国***台防爆电机、起重冶金电机、屏蔽电机、局部风扇机都是在这里研制成功的。经过多年的不懈努力，防爆电机研究所已经发展成为一家集检测、认证、产品开发、标准制订的综合性科研院所。
