Three on the Bund, formerly the renowned British Union Building, is one of Shanghai's outstanding historical buildings. First constructed in 1916, it boasts a history of 108 years. As Shanghai's first fully steel-structured edifice, its design is of the neo-Renaissance style with Baroque exterior embellishments. In 2004, driven by the vision of reviving the glory of the Bund, this unique historical building was magnificently transformed into "Three on the Bund" under the renovation of renowned American architect Michael Graves. Today, Three on the Bund has become a pioneering exemplar of Shanghai's modern refined lifestyle. It integrates art, culture, gastronomy, and music, offering an elegant and inspiring social venue that enriches guests' lives with vibrancy. Three on the Bund creates and operates award-winning restaurants and bars, including the first restaurant outside New York named after Michelin-starred chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten—Shanghai Jean-Georges French Restaurant—which has been honored with one Michelin star for seven consecutive years and a Black Pearl One Diamond from 2021 to 2024; Mercato Italian Restaurant and POP Terrace Restaurant & Bar, selected by Michelin from 2017 to 2024; Canton Table, a Cantonese restaurant awarded one Michelin star from 2021 to 2024; and The Cupola, a Black Pearl-nominated restaurant acclaimed by Condé Nast Traveler as "an unmissable experience in a lifetime." Three on the Bund is dedicated to fostering cultural activities and exchange. It operates the ShanghART Gallery, one of Shanghai's earliest and most prestigious galleries, and hosts the long-running "Three on the Bund Forum," an inspiring lecture series open to the public. Featured speakers include renowned international artists, entrepreneurs, and leaders, including Nobel laureate Professor Robert C. Merton of MIT Sloan School of Management, former Indonesian President Dr. Jusuf Habibie, Dr. Kai-Fu Lee, Chairman and CEO of Sinovation Ventures, Dr. Robert S. Kaplan of Harvard Business School Baker Fund, and three-time Pulitzer Prize winner Thomas L. Friedman. Moreover, Three on the Bund is committed to contributing to a sustainable harmonious society and a green planet, with tangible and comprehensive plans to control food waste, reduce plastic usage, optimize energy consumption, establish direct-sourcing systems for produce, and protect the oceans. It actively promotes intangible cultural heritage, such as traditional handcrafted sugar art, and organizes staff learning trips to explore and promote quality local ingredients and wines. Three on the Bund has long supported social welfare activities, caring for vulnerable groups, and supporting the "Ji Shan Project, Qi Ming Action" social initiative of the China Foundation for Disabled Persons.
