六盘水市第三人民医院前身为六盘水市传染病院，始建于2005年，占地28亩，隶属于六盘水市医疗集团。2009年9月市医疗集团解散后开始独立运转，当时全院仅有27名职工，确承担着六盘水市传染病的医疗救治任务。随着医疗卫生改革的发展和需求，二〇一〇年加挂了六盘水市精神病医院牌子，二〇一一年正式挂牌成立六盘水市第三人民医院，现职工人数110余名，现开设床位120张，拥有大型X光机、DR、彩色多普勤超声仪、全自动生化分析仪、血气分析仪、有创、无创进口呼吸机等现代化检查设备。
