Introduction to Chongqing Ninth People's Hospital

Chongqing Ninth People's Hospital is located in the urban area of Beibei, at the foot of Jinyun Mountain and by the Jialing River. Its predecessor was the Xiaqu Local Hospital founded by Mr. Lu Zuofu in 1927. After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan, the National Jiangsu Medical College (now Nanjing Medical University) moved here in 1939, and its affiliated hospital (now Jiangsu Province Hospital) also opened here. In 1953, the hospital was officially named "Chongqing Ninth People's Hospital" and was affiliated with the Chongqing Health Bureau. In 1994, the hospital became the Chongqing Medical Emergency Sub-center. After Chongqing became a municipality directly under the Central Government in 1997, the hospital was placed under the management of the Beibei District Health Bureau. In 2001, the Chongqing Municipal Government planned "Chongqing Ninth Hospital" as the medical center for the northern region of Chongqing. In 2003, the hospital was evaluated as a Grade 3A hospital. At present, Chongqing Ninth Hospital has developed into the largest medical center in the northern area of Chongqing, the Beibei Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, the Affiliated Hospital of Southwest University, a teaching hospital of the Third Military Medical University, and a friendly hospital of San Gabriel Hospital in California, USA. The hospital's three major orientations are: nationally leading in hospital cost management research; leading in China's western region in rehabilitation treatment for childhood autism; and leading in northern Chongqing in comprehensive strength in medical care, education, and research.
The hospital has one main campus and three branch campuses, covering an area of 71,000 square meters, with a building area of more than 100,000 square meters and total fixed assets of 474 million yuan. At present, it has 1,200 authorized beds and more than 1,648 on-duty employees, including 219 technical personnel with senior professional titles and 222 doctoral and master's students (including those currently studying).
Through implementing the strategy of strengthening the hospital with talent, the hospital's specialty level and comprehensive strength have been greatly improved. In 2019, it was approved to establish a municipal-level postdoctoral research workstation. It now has 8 master's degree programs, 2 provincial and ministerial-level "centers", 21 provincial and ministerial-level key disciplines (specialties) and characteristic specialties, and 9 district-level key specialties. Among them, the Hospital Cost Control Research Office is a key research office of the Chongqing Health Bureau and was approved as the "Chongqing Hospital Cost Management Research Center" at the end of 2015; the Childhood Autism Specialty is a municipal medical characteristic specialty and the "Chongqing Childhood Autism Rehabilitation Treatment Center"; General Practice Medicine is a Chongqing municipal key medical discipline; Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Endocrinology, and Neurology are Chongqing municipal clinical key specialties; Nephrology (Blood Purification) and Thoracic Surgery (Esophageal Diseases) are Chongqing municipal medical characteristic specialties; Rheumatology, Mental Illness, and Rehabilitation are Chongqing municipal traditional Chinese medicine key specialty construction projects; Hepatobiliary Surgery, Pediatrics, and Endocrinology are Chongqing regional medical key disciplines; Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Neurology, Cardiovascular Medicine, Infectious Diseases, and Tumor Hematology are district-level key specialties.
In 2017, the hospital signed a cooperation agreement with the Liangjiang New Area Management Committee. The committee invested 420 million yuan to build a new Liangjiang Branch in the Beibei Shuitu High-tech Industrial Park, with 500 beds, covering an area of 96 mu and a total building area of about 60,000 square meters. At present, the hospital is taking one main campus as the main body, improving the disciplinary layout of two wings (3 branch campuses and Liangjiang Branch), continuously enriching the connotation of the affiliated hospital, and promoting coordinated development of the hospital's medical care, education, and research.
