Polestar (Chinese name: 极星) is a global high-performance electric vehicle brand jointly owned by Volvo Car Group and Zhejiang Geely Holding Group. Polestar will enjoy the technical and engineering synergies of Volvo Cars and benefit from the Group's strong economies of scale. These synergies enable it to design, develop and mass-produce high-performance electric vehicles as an independent brand. The company is headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, and has retail operations in multiple markets worldwide, including Europe, North America and Asia. It has delivered two mass-production models, Polestar 1 and Polestar 2, to users. In 2021, Polestar will add eight new markets in Europe and Asia Pacific. On October 17, 2017, Polestar announced that it would become a new independent high-performance electric vehicle brand. It opened a new era with its high-performance electric-drive hybrid GT coupe, Polestar 1—a collector-grade GT coupe produced in limited annual quantities globally and one of the world's plug-in hybrid vehicles with the longest all-electric range. In 2019, Polestar launched its electric model, Polestar 2. Polestar 2 is a Nordic electric vehicle centered on minimalist aesthetics, professional-grade high-performance driving pleasure, and intelligent, open innovative technology, offering a completely new electric vehicle experience for pioneering people. Polestar 2 offers three powertrain configurations: dual-motor long range, single-motor long range, and single-motor standard range. Polestar 2 began global simultaneous deliveries in July 2020.
