阳江农垦创建于1952年，是中央直属垦区广东农垦的组成部分，1992年按地级市划分行政区域，从原粤西农垦局划分出来，成立广东省阳江农垦局，1996年经省编委批准，成建制转为阳江农垦集团公司，保留阳江农垦局牌子，实行“一套人马，两个牌子”。阳江农垦现有面积近40多万亩，总人口近2万人，在职职工2000多人。下辖6个国有农场公司、4家商贸公司、1间水泥厂、1间生物肥厂、1间医疗机构。阳江农垦目前已发展成为以开发、种植热带和亚热带作物为主，集生产、科研、经营于一体，一二三产业综合并举的国有农业企业集团。
