公司原名称为湖南金德发展股份有限公司，系1984年由株洲市劳动服务公司与其他企事业单位的劳动服务公司等单位采取集资入股、联合经营形式筹建的经济实体。随着经营发展的需要，后来扩展到吸收部分个人集资。曾先后使用过江南联营贸易中心、庆云大厦等名称。1987年月经株洲市经济体制改革办公室批准，规范为株洲庆云股份有限公司，1993年7月更名为株洲庆云发展股份有限公司，并于同年8月办理变更登记。2002年6月再次变更名称为湖南金德发展股份有限公司。2011年1月31日，公司名称由“湖南金德发展股份有限公司”变更为“西王食品股份有限公司”。
