湖北美术学院是我国华中地区*一所多学科门类与多学历层次的高等美术学府。学校前身是创办于1920年的武昌美术学校，后定名为“私立武昌艺术专科学校”（简称武昌艺专）。作为我国*早开办的艺术专科院校之一，我校是中国近、现代高等美术教育的重要发源地，在90余年的办学历史中，始终秉承“兼收并蓄”的学术精神和“兼容互动”的教学理念，培养了一代又一代“崇德、笃学、敏行、致美”服务社会的优秀人才，为中国美术事业的发展做出了独特的贡献。
目前，学校拥有藏龙岛和昙华林两个校区，占地面积700余亩，各学历层次在校生8000余人。
