延安医学院办学历史可以追溯到抗日战争时期陕北公学医学系。1949年延安大学迁往西安办学，1958年重建延安大学，1959年临床医学专业开始招生。1978年经省政府批准成立延安医学院，另迁新址延安市杜甫川筹建，1985年开始独立招生。1998年延安医学院与延安大学、延安市人民医院合并，更名为延安大学医学院。2019年为适应新时代医学教育新形势新要求，延安大学组建新医学院。2024年为深化医教协同进一步推进医学教育改革与发展，成立延安大学延安医学院。在八十多年发展历程中，秉承“博学仁爱，精诚至善”的院训，培养了一大批医疗卫生人才，被誉为“陕北医疗卫生人才摇篮”。
