新疆农业科学院粮食作物研究所成立于1979年，作为公益性科研单位，主要从事小麦、玉米、水稻、豆类、大麦、燕麦、荞麦、甘薯等粮食作物新品种选育、作物高产栽培研究及示范推广工作。研究所下设7个科研业务研究室（麦类作物研究室、玉米育种研究室、水稻研究室、豆类杂粮研究室、综合技术研究室、作物抗逆研究室、农产品加工研究室）和1个所务办公室。
