China Iron & Steel Research Institute Group (hereinafter referred to as CISRI) was established in December 2006. Approved by the State Council and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC), the former Central Iron and Steel Research Institute (founded in 1952) was renamed as China Iron & Steel Research Institute Group, and the Automation Research and Design Institute of Metallurgical Industry (founded in 1973) was merged into the group as a wholly-owned subsidiary. It is the largest comprehensive research, development and high-tech industrialization institution in China's metallurgical industry. In May 2009, upon approval by SASAC, it was restructured into a wholly state-owned company and underwent a pilot of board of directors. CISRI is one of the first 103 innovative enterprise pilot units in China and one of the first 100 innovative enterprises in Zhongguancun Science Park. It is the research and development base for new metal materials in China, an innovation base for major key and common technologies in the metallurgical industry, and an authoritative institution for national metallurgical analysis and testing technology. It has achieved over 5,000 scientific research results, including 293 national awards, 1,035 provincial and ministerial science and technology progress awards, and 783 authorized patents. Aiming at industrial scale, large-scale engineering, and internationalized products, CISRI has witnessed rapid development in industries such as new materials, automatic control technology, engineering technology, and analytical testing instruments. Since its transformation from a scientific research institution into a technology enterprise in 1999, it has successively established new material industries dominated by Advanced Technology & Materials Co., Ltd. (AT&M) and Gaona Co., Ltd.; established metallurgical process engineering technology R&D, transformation and engineering contracting industries dominated by Beijing Aritime Intelligent Control Co., Ltd. and Xinye Group; and successively built bases such as Zhuozhou National Metallurgical Fine Variety Testing Base (Hebei CISRI New Material Industrial Park), Shijiazhuang Development Zone High-Speed Steel Industrial Base, Zhongguancun Yongfeng Industrial Base, Fengtai Industrial Base, Beijing Airport Industrial Park, and Changping Industrial Base. It has built high-tech industrialization projects such as amorphous materials, flux-cored wire materials, high-temperature alloy materials, high-quality diamond saw blade materials, metallurgical electrical automation equipment production lines, isostatic pressing and equipment manufacturing centers. Many of these projects have been listed as national high-tech achievement industrialization transformation projects. These have made significant contributions to the development of China's new material industry and metallurgical process engineering industry. Twelve national-level centers and laboratories, including the National Engineering Research Center for Advanced Steel Materials Technology, the National Engineering Research Center for Continuous Casting Technology, the National Engineering Research Center for Amorphous and Nanocrystalline Alloys, and the National Engineering Research Center for Metallurgical Automation, are located at CISRI. Looking ahead, CISRI will take more solid steps from a new starting point and work together with all sectors towards a bright future!
