Toshiba Corporation separated its air conditioning equipment business and merged it with the leading air conditioning manufacturer, Carrier Corporation of the United States, forming a new company: Toshiba Carrier Corporation. Leveraging the advantages of the two groups in global product research and development, production, and sales networks, it has demonstrated great competitiveness in the market.

Toshiba began producing its first air conditioner in 1935, with a history of 80 years. In 1961, it produced the world's first split-type air conditioner, in 1981, the world's first inverter air conditioner, and in 1993, the world's first dual-rotary inverter air conditioner. The twin rotary compressor is independently developed by Toshiba. Up to today's SMMS series, Toshiba has been continuously optimizing its products to better serve customers, committed to creating a healthy, comfortable, and energy-saving environment, and building smart home systems together with Toshiba elevators, lighting, and building energy management systems.

In October 2006, Toshiba Carrier Corporation established Toshiba Carrier Air Conditioning Sales (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. in China, with its headquarters in the center of Shanghai, employing nearly 700 staff members.
