Wuhan Aier Eye Hospital

Aier Eye Hospital Affiliated to Wuhan University is a large-scale tertiary specialized eye hospital approved by Hubei Provincial Health Commission in 2003, integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, myopia prevention and control, and blindness prevention and treatment. The hospital has been recognized as a National Drug Clinical Trial Institution, a National High-tech Enterprise, an ophthalmology specialty base for standardized residency training, a designated hospital for the implementation of the Hubei Province Poverty Cataract Restorative Project, a designated hospital for the 'Charity Crowdfunding' project of Hubei Charity Federation, a designated hospital for the 'Overseas Chinese Love? Brightness Action' project of Hubei Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, a designated hospital for the implementation of the 'Restoring Sight No. 9' project of Hubei Disabled Persons' Federation, and a designated hospital for retinal screening and prevention of high-risk populations with chronic diseases in Hubei Province. In 2016, it was recognized as a Hubei Province Level 3 Hospital Clinical Key Specialty (Ophthalmology) and a Wuhan Municipal Clinical Key Specialty (Ophthalmology), and has won honorary titles such as Wuhan 'May 1st Labor Award'. In the 2019 China Hospital Science and Technology Value Ophthalmology Ranking, our hospital ranked 50th nationwide.  The hospital has a main campus, Hankou campus, Hanyang campus, Hongshan campus, Qingshan campus, Huangpi campus, Wuhan University Aier Eye Clinical College, Wuhan University Aier Eye Research Institute, Wuhan Aier Eye Institute, Wuhan Aier Eye Bank, Jiangxia Clinic, Caidian Clinic, Huangpi Clinic, and Qiaokou Clinic. There are currently 676 medical and health personnel, including 27 chief physicians, 60 associate chief physicians, 95 attending physicians, and 75 physicians. There are 11 master's and doctoral supervisors, 32 doctoral degree holders, and 143 master's degree holders. A total of 21 experts hold academic positions in provincial and municipal ophthalmology academic organizations. The hospital has 475 beds, with an annual outpatient volume of more than 400,000 visits and an annual surgical volume of more than 40,000 procedures.  The hospital has departments including Refractive Surgery, Ocular Surface and Corneal Diseases, Glaucoma, Cataract and Presbyopia, Fundus Diseases, Strabismus and Amblyopia and Pediatric Ophthalmology, Lacrimal Passage/Ocular-Nasal Related Diseases, Eyelid and Orbital Diseases/Ocular Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, Comprehensive Eye Diseases, Optometry Center, Anesthesiology, and Functional Imaging. It is also equipped with a large number of internationally first-class advanced diagnostic, treatment, and scientific research equipment, including: German Zeiss VisuMax femtosecond laser corneal surgery system, U.S. Alcon Lensx Laser ophthalmic laser surgery system, U.S. Optovue AngioOCT, U.S. TearScience LipiView ocular surface interferometer and Lipiflow meibomian gland thermal pulsation treatment device, Italian Centervue MAIA macular function assessment device, German OCULUS PentacamHR anterior segment assessment system & CorvisST corneal biomechanical analyzer, U.K. Optos Daytona laser scanning ophthalmoscope, Japanese Tomey Casia2 anterior segment optical coherence tomography, etc. In the past ten years, the hospital has undertaken 2 projects from the Hubei Provincial Department of Science and Technology, 9 projects from the Hunan Provincial Department of Science and Technology, 11 projects from the Hubei Provincial Health Commission, and 58 projects from the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission. It has produced 41 scientific research patents, 13 software copyrights, and more than 360 scientific papers (including more than 30 SCI journal papers). In 2008, it founded and published the medical journal 'Ophthalmology Practice and Research', which has issued 45 issues to date, and has edited and published 9 medical monographs. It has hosted 6 national continuing medical education projects, 21 provincial continuing education projects, and 7 municipal continuing education projects. A total of 15 doctors have been selected as Wuhan Young and Middle-aged Medical Backbone Talents. The hospital is committed to introducing and absorbing internationally synchronized ophthalmic technology and medical management concepts, and promoting the development of ophthalmic medical care in Hubei Province and even the whole country with a development strategy of specialization, scale, and scientificization.
