Shenzhen Research Institute of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

The Shenzhen Research Institute of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is a public institution approved by the Shenzhen Municipal Government and one of the first institutions to join the Shenzhen Virtual University Park. The Shenzhen Research Institute undertakes liaison work for the HKUST headquarters in Shenzhen. Its main work includes: assisting the University in mainland student recruitment, providing liaison and project management services for the University's enterprises and laboratories in Shenzhen, and serving as a communication and coordination bridge between the University and relevant enterprises, institutions, and government departments in Shenzhen.
The HKUST Shenzhen Industry-University-Research Building was built with an investment of 100 million RMB and a floor area of approximately 15,000 square meters. It houses research rooms, lecture halls, classrooms, multi-function rooms, etc., and was put into use in 2011. To date, ten laboratories have been introduced, namely: the HKUST Marine Biology Laboratory, the HKUST Nano Materials Center, the HKUST Shenzhen Robotics and Automation Technology Center, the HKUST Internet of Things Laboratory, the HKUST Shenzhen Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Center (Mianli HKUST Cosmetics Innovation R&D Center), the HKUST Molecular Neuroscience Laboratory, the HKUST Shenzhen Cyber-Physical Systems Laboratory, the HKUST Shenzhen Functional Materials (Smart Membrane) Laboratory, the HKUST Electronic Packaging Materials Laboratory, and the HKUST Shenzhen Green Intelligent Technology R&D Center.
HKUST currently offers executive training programs for the Business School in Shenzhen. Five companies founded by HKUST professors and students, including Googol Technology, Huan Yin Technology, and DJI Technology, have moved into the Shenzhen Industry-University-Research Building and successfully commercialized research achievements.
