太原科技大学（原太原重型机械学院）始建于1952年，原为机械工业部直属院校，1998年转为省部共建。现有教职工1510人，其中，教师826人。教授110人，副教授155人。学校具有博士、硕士、学士三级人才培养体系。现有全日制在校生10941人，设有11个学院（直属系）、38个本科专业，2个博士点，32个硕士点（1980年获得硕士学位授予权），还设有成人教育学院、职业技术学院和一所二级学院。学校面向全国招生，毕业生一次性就业率多年稳居95%以上。学校拥有现代化的实验室和教学实验设备，大型金属结构疲劳试验台、工业车辆综合试验台和材料加工计算机集成制造系统等达国内一流水平。材料加工工程、机械设计及理论、车辆工程、系统工程等学科特色鲜明，为山西省重点学科。
