Oriental Publishing Center is a comprehensive publishing house under China Publishing Group. Its predecessor was the Shanghai Branch of Encyclopedia of China Publishing House, established on November 18, 1978. It adopted its current name in 1995.
Over the past 40 years since its establishment, the Center has not only published large-scale reference works such as the Encyclopedia of China, but also introduced a series of renowned authors including Xiong Shili, Wang Yuanhua, Liu Yizheng, Feng Qi, Xie Zhiliu, Chen Peiqiu, Chen Zhongshi, Qian Liqun, Yu Qiuyu, Wang Anyi, William Nordhaus, Jia Kang, Liang Xiaomin, and others. Many books, such as Chinese Poetics, Declassified Archives on China from the United States, A History of Chinese Academic Cases, and Cultural Journey, have won numerous major awards including the National Book Honor Award, China Book Award, China Publishing Government Award, Chinese Excellent Publication Award, Lu Xun Literature Award, 'The Most Beautiful Books in China', Shanghai Book Award, and others. The Center's publishing business has formed a pattern and distinctive features with a focus on literature, history, economics, and management books.
The Center's 'Oriental Hongqiao International Creative Publishing Industry Base' leverages Shanghai's geographical advantages and integrates its own building and property resources. Through unified planning and construction, it is striving to become an internationally renowned publishing and cultural industry innovation hub with a unified physical form, concentrated contents of cultural and technological innovation industries, complete functions of capital operation and industry incubation, and modern intelligent management.
The Center's integrated publishing work is supported by the key national integration project 'Image China'. It has built an online travel culture service platform. With integrated publishing and technological innovation as a breakthrough, it aims to realize the digitalization of publishing resources, informatization of production processes, specialization of market services, and scaling of product content, thereby creating new advantages in the innovation-driven development of the data economy.
The Center's two journals, China Advertising and Metropolis, enjoy high reputation in the industry. The Center places great emphasis on international cooperation and exchange and has established cooperative relationships with dozens of world-renowned publishing institutions. As a publishing unit among the 'Top 100 Overseas Collection Influence', the Center continuously contributes wisdom and strength to the overseas dissemination of Chinese culture.
The Center adheres to the development philosophy of moderately diversified and high-quality growth, promoting the long-term development of three lines: book publishing, park construction, and integrated development, with the goal of becoming a medium-to-large-scale comprehensive cultural publishing enterprise.
